“So….what shows do you watch?”
Yes, television is the new novel, and while I can’t keep track of everything that is out there, I cannot recommend more highly HBO’s recent miniseries, Big Little Lies, based on the novel by Liane Moriarty.
Meaty story, incredible acting, complicated female characters….not to mention, incredible sets and THE CLOTHES!
I couldn’t help but think, what if the Big Little Lies ladies came to a Stella & Dot trunk show? How would I style them?
First, I’m going to bet Reese Witherspoon’s Madeline would host because she seems to be on top of that, especially if there’s a charity component.
My favorite part of a trunk show is helping women find pieces they love and feel confident wearing. As a stylist, I like to take into account their style, lifestyle, career, and coloring. Here are my picks for the pre-school moms of Monterey:
Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) – A Stay at Home Mom, with her hands in everything, and always dressed to the nines. She wears heels to have coffee with her friends after school drop off. Has a classic style with a preppy edge. Think – J Crew, Kate Spade, Tory Burch
Would love to see her in the York Necklace – Looks great with a blue blazer and jeans or tunic and white jeans for Summer
Renata (Laura Dern) – Silicon Valley Executive, Working Mom, Intimidating….she’s the mom you’re scared to confront at a parent teach conference. Chanel, Gucci….pretty much anything really expensive for tall, thin women. Renata’s idea of jeans and a sweater includes a Hermes belt.
The Emmeline would be a little out of the box for Renata, but would look great at the office as a statement piece, and then the bottom strand can be worn long on the weekends for a more laid back look (if that’s possible for her).
Celeste (Nicole Kidman) – Former Attorney turned Stay At Home Mom. Her style is softer, more romantic, and covered up. (We soon find out why.)
Taking into account Celeste’s height and lightness about her, she seems to be more of a jewelry minimalist, wearing diamond studs her husband probably gave her and not much else.
I would suggest layering two Covet diamond initial necklaces with her twin boys’ initials. She never has to take them off and will always look chic.
To finish the look:
Jane (Shailene Woodley) – The new mom in town. She doesn’t seem to work, she works out a lot, and takes care of her son, Ziggy. As a single mom, I’m not quite sure how Jane supports herself living in Monterey, California with no job, but I’m just not going to ask questions. She wants to look nice, but I get the sense Jane hates to shop. You’ll find her in Madewell or Gap, sticking to the basics.
Jane is my classic “I don’t really wear jewelry” customer that I love to find pieces she’s excited about, much to her amazement.
I would definitely stick to a few “throw on and go” styles. She’ll always look great, but she doesn’t have to think about what goes, what neckline, etc.
Finish the Look – Cleopatra Studs (I wouldn’t push it with a bracelet. She would say it’s too much.)
Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) – Free Spirited, Conflict Free, Juice Cleansing, Yoga Instructing Bonnie. She is the gal who comes to a Stella & Dot show thinking it is so not her thing, and then is shocked to find pieces she actually likes. (It happens!)
I’m going to guess Bonnie believes in the protective powers of crystals, so I would suggest the Aria Necklace.
